        Fieldwork and qualitative data are growing in importance in medical, mental health, and other social science research.  The Laboratory offers training and consultation in these in these methods.
        A variety of qualitative and ethnographic methods are available to assist researchers in doing more effective, comprehensive studies.  Combining qualitative and quantitative methods can offer a comparative advantage in research grant applications in many fields.

        The Laboratory is a Core Research facility supported jointly by the Mental Retardation Research Center and the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences.  It is located in the Department of Social and Community Psychiatry, and is available to faculty throughout the Department of Psychiatry.
